There is something exhilarating about starting something new: a new idea, project, or business that fuels excitement in a person. We get stirred up by a lot of ideas in our head and then dream about the end product. However, the actuality of STARTING and FINISHING is something entirely different. Here is where the rubber meets the road. A lot of times the side of the road is littered with discarded dreams, half-hearted attempts and intentions, shattered pieces of broken promises and unfulfilled commitments. If we take a closer look then we can see where we have failed in the process…we weren’t INTENTIONAL. God gives us a perfect example of His intentions, where He started and where He finished, throughout the Bible and how it is fulfilled in Christ Jesus. Throughout history God has displayed how He shows patience in the process (with us); He finished what He started whether it is the creation of the world or the gift of Salvation for mankind. God has never gotten distracted by His end goal which is souls. Satan is cunning by how he continues to throw things our way that will side-swipe us off course. It will take decisions on our part to turn away from distractions: anything that will take your eyes off God’s purpose for your life. Hebrews 12:1-3 tell us that we are to run and not quit and to take heed of the example that Christ set, that he never lost sight of where he was headed even to death. He was intentional about finishing God’s Will and Purpose for His Life. He finished His assignment.
Read the highlighted text on how we should focus on God in starting and finishing our race, our purpose, strong:
Hebrews 12:1-2 NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION: 1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and run with endurance the race set out for us, 2 keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith…
Paul also tells us how intentional and victoriously he finished his race:
2 TIMOTHY 4: AMPLIFIED VERSION I have fought the good (worthy, honorable, and noble) fight, I have finished the race, I have kept (firmly held) the faith.
God desires to see the purpose that He placed in each and every one of us to be finished and displayed for His glory. It is up to us to make a decision to be intentional about pressing through the resistance to our purpose.
It is up to us to BE INTENTIONAL!
